![]() ![]() You can also put different structures side by side and make your own little miniature town. Doing different patterns will build different structures.Īs you build you have the option to select different colors. In Townscaper you're presented with a grid, which you can click the A button on. I could probably end the review here and you'd know just as much if I didn't write another five and a half paragraphs, but let's carry on. What's the deal with Townscaper? You build. If you didn't do that, it's okay, it just means you weren't me. Searching frantically, you likely went to the Xbox Game Pass list and filtered by completion time, bringing up this masterpiece. So, you need a quick 1,000 Gamerscore to catch up to a competitor or do better on a personal goal. £4.19 and available on Xbox Game Pass at the time of writing, a game that even for what may be an hours worth of entertainment, is a hard bargain. ![]() A 1.1 Ratio with an estimated 30 minute completion time and video walkthroughs of Achievements and special structures can be found on YouTube. I can appreciate that.Īn easy to install, de-stressing tool with calming colours and low threshold for challenge that’ll add some zen into your shirt game time block. ![]() It became a vibrant, zen-like state to unwind to. Although I can respect the Developer for having limitations. Even a guide on creating special structures would have been handy. I wished I could see some town folk exploring their new home, ships passing the lighthouse and more variation in special structures. It was still lacking life, feeling empty. It was those little details that were fantastic, remarkable to bring so much character and life into this tool. Having to follow contours of a grid, choose which pastels I wanted to combine in a dense part of town to contribute towards its uniqueness and beauty, the randomly assigned gardens, roofs or seagulls perched around, the plants or manhole covers in that appear in the streets, washing lines attached to buildings or simply building something with no architectural logic. My verdict? I liked Townscaper when I viewed it as a tool than compared to a game. I was prepared for a lack of features, special structures and accepted that the map was randomly generated with the intention of having to incorporate asymmetrical designs into my costal town. I couldn’t tell if I liked or disliked my experience.Ĭuriosity got the better me within an hour before I reinstalled Townscaper once more to have a dabble in the sandbox, seabox? Either way. I had originally treated this as a quick completion, taking merely 20 minutes of my time before I was uninstalling it. This sandbox town creator is better described as a toy than opposed to a game and at the time of writing, is available on Windows, Mac, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS and of course, Xbox. This can be done as many times as necessary to reach the size you want, and you can always find more circles to create more area to build between.Townscaper is an experimental passion project by the Developer, Oskar Stålberg. Luckily their exposed corners are once again hidden by triangles.īuilding off of that triangle into the line we've already made and filling it in and we already have a huge area in which to build with no stilts at all thanks to there being no exposed corners on any part of the outer edge. I'll demonstrate it again at a different point, you can see here that there's a pentagon but once again the triangles on either side of it will hide all but one of its corners.įollowing along the grid hides the final corner of the pentagon like before and makes its way toward the other line we've made, but along the way it runs into another couple pentagons. In the case of this one you can see that it has 2 square tiles in the back and two triangles on either side hiding those corners leaving only one corner left to generate a stilt.īy using the square tiles following it to connect it together you can hide that final corner so that no stilt generates. Where things get more complicated is in the case of pentagons, the only way to have them on the outer edge of your floating city is if none of their corners are exposed. ![]()
